After much speculation, the teaser of Aishwarya Lekshmi starrer Malayalam movie ‘Kumari‘ has been released. The teaser much like the first look promises an intriguing story based in a place of mysticism and old traditions.
The fact that Prithviraj Productions is producing the movie is enough to ensure that it will be a fine cinematic experience. The reputed production house led by Supriya Menon has given a large slate of hits, both theatrically and on OTT like Driving License, Kuruthi, and Jana Gana Mana.
The 2-minute teaser is titled ‘The world of Kumari’ and gives a small glance into where the movie takes place. Called Kangirangad, the place is described as a remote village where people still live under old customs and traditions. Narrated by Prithviraj himself in person as if he is reading a long forgotten story in an old book, we are introduced to the protagonist of the story, Aishwarya Lekshmi’s character referred to as Kumari (meaning princess in Malayalam) who comes to this place by virtue of her marriage to a resident played by Shine Tom Chacko.
The teaser is well cut, dark, chilling, and mysterious and the ominous background music by Jakes Bejoy only adds to the intrigue. The world-building in the teaser is nothing short of brilliant. We are shown glimpses of numerous characters as well as the places in the world of Kumari. The movie reminds the viewers of ‘Ananthabhadram’ a 2005 Malayalam horror film which too had a similar premise of an outsider coming into a village where mysticism and curses still exist. Interestingly, the movie also starred Prithviraj.
The teaser was meant to increase curiosity among the audience and that, the teaser of ‘Kumari’ does perfectly. Lately, Prithviraj Productions seems to be on a roll with their teasers as well.
Kumari is directed by Nirmal Sahadev. Besides Aishwarya and Shine, Kumari also stars Swasika Vijay and Giju John with National award Winning actress Surabhi Lakshmi appearing in a completely new avatar.
