Last week, at a film function, while commenting on the success of KGF Chapter 2, Kannada star Kiccha Sudeep declared that ‘Hindi is no longer a National language” and that “Bollywood is struggling”.
The video of Kiccha Sudeep making the aforementioned statement went viral on the internet. Soon, the video made its way to Bollywood star Ajay Devgn, who took offence to Kiccha Sudeep’s statement. This afternoon, Ajay Devgn posted a reply to Kiccha Sudeep on Twitter, with a tweet written in Hindi.
Ajay Devgn wrote,
“Sudeep, my brother, if Hindi is not our National language, then why do you dub your mother tongue movies and release them in Hindi?”
He added, “Hindi was, is and will remain our mother tongue and National language”.
Check out Ajay Devgn’s tweet here –

Content with having made his point, Ajay Devgn must have been shocked when Kiccha Sudeep replied on Twitter –

And this –
I love and respect every language of our country sir. I would want this topic to rest,,, as I said the line in a totally different context.
Mch luv and wshs to you always.
Hoping to seeing you soon.

Initially, Kiccha Sudeep’s responses seemed to be cheerful and lighthearted, wishing for the matter to rest.
But soon, his tone shifted to that of a man going on the offensive. He informed Ajay Devgn in no uncertain terms that he could read Ajay Devgn’s tweet (written in Hindi) only because he loves and respects all languages. But what would the situation be if he had replied with a tweet typed in Kannada?
Check out Kiccha Sudeep’s response –
And sir @ajaydevgn ,,
I did understand the txt you sent in hindi. Tats only coz we all have respected, loved and learnt hindi.
No offense sir,,,but was wondering what'd the situation be if my response was typed in kannada.!!
Don't we too belong to India sir.

Ajay Devgn tried to keep the matter light by posting a friendly response –
Hi @KicchaSudeep, You are a friend. thanks for clearing up the misunderstanding. I’ve always thought of the film industry as one. We respect all languages and we expect everyone to respect our language as well. Perhaps, something was lost in translation 🙏
— Ajay Devgn (@ajaydevgn) April 27, 2022
But by now, Kiccha Sudeep was in no mood to back off. He responded to Ajay Devgn’s friendly overture with a faintly taunting reply –
Translation & interpretations are perspectives sir. Tats the reason not reacting wothout knowing the complete matter,,,matters.:)
I don't blame you @ajaydevgn sir. Perhaps it would have been a happy moment if i had received a tweet from u for a creative reason.
Luv&Regards❤️ https://t.co/lRWfTYfFQi— Kichcha Sudeepa (@KicchaSudeep) April 27, 2022
Kiccha Sudeep’s last line is particularly…ahem…barbed… “Perhaps it would have been a happy moment if i had received a tweet from u for a creative reason.”
*Mic drop*!
Ajay Devgn hasn’t responded to Kiccha Sudeep’s final tweet yet.
The South is already on the boil against what they perceive to be ‘Hindi imposition’ by the Centre. Ajay Devgn has waded into a burning topic with his tweet. We just hope the controversy doesn’t affect the box office collections of his upcoming film, ‘Runway 34’, due to release in theatres this Friday.
