First the pandemic and now Cyclone. Mumbai film industry is being plundered with back-to-back rampages of natural phenomenon. Couple of days back the Cyclone Tauktae has hit the coastal area of Maharashtra which resulted several deaths and massive property damages in Maharashtra. And today that includes the movie sets of films like Maidaan, Tiger 3 and Gangubai Kathiabadi.
Now, the damage to the set of Ajay Devgn‘s Maidaan is extremely devastating. As per the sources, Cyclone hit the set when there were around 40 people. There is no report for casualties yet but the massive 16-acre set which was created for depicting a football ground is completely destroyed. The people in the set, tried to protect the same as much as they could but everything went in vain as the Cyclone just massacred the set.
This is not the first time the production of Maidaan got impacted. Since the beginning of the shooting of the film in mid-2019, the production halted before due to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown in India in 2020. At that time the shooting was going on in Kolkata and Lucknow. And now, with another untimely halt, the makers and the artists would be devastated.
Those who are unfamiliar with Maidaan, this is an upcoming sports biopic based on the life of one of the greatest football coaches in India, Syed Abdul Rahim who will be portrayed by Ajay Devgn. Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh will also feature in the film. Maidaan will be directed by Amit Sharma, who has gained national fame for directing the critically acclaimed ‘Badhaai Ho’. This will be the second collaboration between Amit Sharma and Gajraj Rao.
Maidaan is set to release on 15th October, this year but with the unexpected situations in the country along with the recent cyclonic development, we are not sure when the shooting will be completed but we can only hope that the film releases on the scheduled date.
