The official trailer for the upcoming movie ‘Akelli‘ is out now. It stars Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead role and has other actors like Amir Boutrous, Rajesh Jais, Tsahi Halevi in major roles. It will have its theatrical release on the 18th of August.
‘Akelli’ tells the story of an ordinary Indian girl who gets stranded in a war torn land. The girl has to go to Mosul in Iraq for her job and she finds very kind people to help her initially. But soon the land is taken over by terrorists and the whole state is in ruins. She has to survive through a series of toughness and tortures and is exploited time and again until the commander of the terrorists decides to take her as a mistress. The takeover goes very hard on her and the government cannot do much to protect her.
The trailer is pretty intriguing but the performances could have been more convincing. Also, there are not many dimensions available to the narrative. At places, it looks like an excerpt from movies like ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ or ‘Airlift’. The subject is nothing new but we will have to watch the movie to see if there is some new treatment in the story.
Akelli is written and directed by Pranay Meshram. The cinematography is handled by Pushkar Singh and it is edited by Sumeet Kotian. The movie will be released on the 18th of August. This is the first time Nushrratt Bharuccha is starring as a lead in such a gritty thriller.
