Helmed by Sudha Kongara, who also directed the original, Hindi remake of the superhit Tamil film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ has a change in its scheduled release. The film has now been postponed to next year supposedly as part of a planned strategy.
Akshay Kumar is known for the number of films he gives in a limited time frame but this time the makers are trying to ensure that the ‘Soorarai Pottru’ Hindi remake gets a solid 4 month window after the slated October 2023 release of his film ‘The Great Indian Rescue’.
This has led to a shift in the remake’s release to 16th February, 2024 giving it a good enough time for promotions, marketing and more. The film was earlier set to release in theatre on 1st September, 2023.
‘Soorarai Pottru’ remake has been clouded with issues ever since its announcement. Public has had their doubts about the Hindi version as they believe it to be unnecessary, lacking originality and a waster of resources. More so, when the Hindi dub of the original is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video for a long time now. There’s also the matter of Akshay Kumar’s not so successful recent run where all his films last year were a commercial failure at the box office.
Given so much going on around with the film, fans are still excited to see how the Hindi remake of ‘Soorarai Pottru’ will turn out. Other than Akshay Kumar the film also stars Radhika Madan, with Paresh Rawal reprising his role. This untitled remake is produced by Suriya, who played the lead in the original, and Vikram Malhotra.
