Alan Ritchson has disclosed that Prime Video’s Reacher Season 3 will adapt Lee Child’s seventh Jack Reacher novel, Persuader. This scenario presents a great opportunity for showrunners to bring back the protagonist’s ‘lone wolf’ persona in the next season. Showrunner Nick Santora has discussed the possibility of more returning characters in the third season. Let’s check out what he said!
Santora recently talked with The Hollywood Reporter about the idea of adding more returning characters to Season 3. In his reply, he clarifies that Reacher works alone, indicating that he won’t have a “band of merry folks” with him in the next season.
“What I can say is the spirit of Reacher is that he is a loner and a drifting hobo, to use Reacher’s terminology. So, Reacher is never going to have a band of merry folks that travel along with him and help him solve crimes, and have adventures. The DNA of Reacher is that he moves about on his own and teams up with good people when there’s bad lurking about, and then he says goodbye to those people and goes on his way. And that’s what we’re always trying to stay true to.”
What Nick Santora said about Reacher’s loner persona is true. In most of Lee Child’s novels, the protagonist works best when he is alone. He likes maintaining a safe distance from personal attachments and prefers depending only on his instincts and skills. There is a reason why he is considered a highly skilled and reputed investigator. This scenario not only gives him complete independence to operate freely but also aids him in evaluating the situations objectively and making swift decisions.
Many viewers criticised Reacher Season 2 for being overdependent on other characters and not giving enough importance to Alan Ritchson’s character. Maria Sten’s Neagley, particularly, steals the limelight from Reacher in the latest season. In addition, in the scene where the remaining members of the 110th Special Investigations Unit encounter a biker gang, almost all of them handle things on their own without needing Reacher’s help. Cases like these adversely impact Reacher’s dominance in the show.
The selection of ‘Persuader’ as Season 3’s source material looks good here, as Jack Reacher maintains his ‘lone wolf’ persona in this one. The seventh Lee Child novel revolves around the protagonist’s unofficial collaboration with the DEA to take down the notorious drug smuggler, Zachary Beck. After saving Beck’s son from a fake kidnapping attempt, Reacher earns the family’s trust. He becomes relentless in his efforts to bring down Beck, motivated by his ultimate goal of eliminating Quinn, who is Beck’s boss. Quinn murdered one of Reacher’s close friends.
Maria Sten’s Neagley will return in Reacher Season 3. Stream all episodes of the Alan Ritchson starrer on Prime Video. Stay tuned for more updates.
