It’s not a rarity for Bollywood films to develop a following outside India but that’s a yesterday story. After a long while, a bollywood film has developed a massive following in almost all East-Asian countries. We have written earlier as to how the film has been trending in Thailand, South Korea,Indonesia, Malaysia,Hong Kong, Taiwan etc..All thanks to Netflix. What Gangubai Kathiawadi did to the Industry post pandemic is something else, as it discovered a whole new market for its films – Thailand.
The film was trending everywhere in Thailand, from Instagram, twitter, tiktok, Netflix Thailand etc etc. There are around 2 billion posts under Hastag Gangubai Kathiawadi on Tiktok. The film has hundreds of viral tweets and not to mention the views Instagram reels are getting where people from Thailand are emulating Gangubai’s looks and dialogues besides consistently trending on top on Netflix Thailand. Overwhelmed by the response from Thailand, Alia Bhatt often began reposting stories on her Instagram.
It seems like she took it up a notch ahead as she thanked Thailand fans with a video message today. Netflix Thailand posted a video where the star actor expresses gratitude towards her new Thai fans. Not only does she greet in Thai, but also hints at visiting Thailand in person soon. Here is the post from Netflix Thailand.

No price in guessing what would she possibly be promoting in Thailand soon (in case she is actually visiting the country for a meet & greet). That’s right! Netflix acquired her debut co-production ‘Darlings’, starring herself, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathews recently. So we are hoping she has partnered with Netflix Thailand to expand the reach of her upcoming film. Well, her newly gained Thai fans would be happy and we hope every Indian film take note of this newly gained market for bollywood.
