Alien: Romulus is set to become the first standalone entry and ninth overall instalment in the Alien franchise. Helmed by Fede Alvarez, the film is led by Priscilla fame, Cailee Spaeny. The actress appeared at the red carpet of this year’s Gotham Awards where she opened up about the forthcoming Alien entry.
Spaeny has confirmed that Romulus is set between the events of the first two films in the franchise: Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). The former flick was helmed by Napoleon director Ridley Scott. It revolves around the crew of the spaceship Nostromo. Things go south after the crew decides to drop a visit to an uncharted moon and accidentally lets a dangerous extraterrestrial creature inside their ship. Only Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) manages to escape in the first film. On the other hand, the sequel was directed by James Cameron and took place 57 years after the events of the first film.
Cailee Spaeny has been nominated for ‘Outstanding Lead Performance’ for her brilliant performance in the latest Sofia Coppola feature directional project at this year’s Gotham Independent Film Awards (33rd edition). Apart from Priscilla, she has worked in Pacific Rim Uprising, On the Basis of Sex, Vice, Bad Times at the El Royale, and How It Ends.
Written and directed by Fede Alvarez, Alien: Romulus is led by Cailee Spaeny. The rest of the cast includes Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. The duo of Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss has produced the project, representing Scott Free Productions and 20th Century Studios, respectively. It will come out in theatres globally on August 16, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
