2022 will go down as the year of shocking cancellations at almost all the major streaming platforms. Though Netflix receives a lot of flak for cancelling shows left, right and center, the fact is that all streamers have become ruthless in axing shows that don’t meet their ROI adequately.
Be it Prime Video or HBO or HBO Max or Paramount Plus – every streaming platform of any worth has canceled shows after a season or two – a few which found their share of viewers too. HBO Max has had a difficult year of consolidation, with the beleaguered platform regrouping and rethinking its content in the wake of the Discovery – Warner Bros. merger, and mounting debt to boot.
Netflix, of course, has had several well-publicised and shocking cancellations of its own, with Warriorr Nun being the most hurtful for fans of the show.
Here is a consolidated list of shows cancelled at the top streaming platforms in 2022. It must be noted that we’ve not included those shows that have completed a decent run on TV, and have ended in an organic way, for example Peaky Blinders and Better Call Saul. We’ve only included those shows that got an unceremonious boot after just a Season or two, and despite having a lot of juice left for further seasons.
