Sobhita Dhulipala is one of the most prominent actresses on the OTT. She has led the highly celebrated Prime Video series Made In Heaven. She was also featured in Mani Ratnam’s blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan 1 in a minor role.
But what has happened to her role?
Her latest character in her newest and biggest series is all about swimming. If you have watched the insanely buzzy “The Night Manager” on Disney+Hotstar then you would know that her character has been penned very badly.
Elizabeth Debicki in the original show had a much better-written character than that of Sobita Dhulipala. If you are watching The Night Manager then you might have noticed that all Sobita Dhulipala does is swim. When she is not swimming then she is seen doing a short chit-chat with Anil Kapoor or Aditya Roy Kapoor.
There is little to no mistake from Shobhita’s side but the fault is credited to the writers. They could have done a far better job in writing her character which required a little more depth.
Fans are calling out this issue with the show and it is indeed important. Even in 2023 if we have to call out the makers for stronger female characters then it is a failure for the film industry, media, and audience.
Treating female characters as mere decoration should never have happened in the industry in the first place. More strongly, it should have stopped by now. Good thing, people are calling out and makers MUST listen to it.
We hope the second installment of The Night Manager does more justice to Sobhita’s character.
