Soon after the warm response to the 2024 Cannes Festival’s official selection, the movie ‘All We Imagine As Light’ is all applauding on its screening at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which was held today on Canadian time of 01:00 hours. This appreciation reminds of what Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam once said- “If you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun.”
The movie is directed by Payal Kapadia based on a story of two Keralite nurses based in Mumbai where Nurse Prabha’s routine is troubled when she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Her younger roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find a spot in the city to be intimate with her boyfriend. A trip to a beach town allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest. The movie is jointly produced by various companies like Petit Chaos, Chalk and Cheese Films as well as BALDR Films respectively.
The film talked about the undiscovered areas or the other face of the outskirts of Mumbai which typically differs from its urbanisation. The effort is conceived in such a way that has a compelling drama way of storytelling and intriguing at the same time. The movie has languages mainly like Malayalam which the two main leads spoke, Hindi and Marathi which were the languages spoken in the location world.
The movie has been receiving positive responses concerning its subtly and delicate performances of actors, storyline, screenplay, and technical labour like music and background scores which are soothing and engaging. Apart from receiving appreciation, this is the first movie to get the ‘Grand Prix Award’, which is the laurel from the Festival of Cannes.
