Allu Arjun’s ’Pushpa – The Rise’ is now preponed and will release in theatres on 17th December, 2021. You might think that with this the big box office clash that was supposed to happen between ‘Pushpa’ and Ranveer Singh’s ’83’ this Christmas has now been averted. While you are not wrong for the latter part, a clash is still going to happen.
Now, instead of intra-national it will be an international clash with ‘Pushpa’ sharing its release date with Marvel Studio’s much awaited Tom Holland, Zendaya and Benedict Cumberbatch starrer superhero film ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.
While the clash might not feel much in the southern part of the country with a huge Allu Arjun fan following, it might impact the ambitious pan-India approach of ‘Pushpa – The Rise’. That’s because Hollywood movies like that from a big and popular studio like Marvel enjoy a huge audience countrywide especially in the northern states.
Moreover, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is one of the most highly anticipated star-studded movies from the superhero franchise and Indian fans have been eagerly waiting for it from a long time. Therefore, when it releases alongside ‘Pushpa – The Rise’, the tilt towards it is definitely going to be strong, more so in northern India.
The kind of national fandom that was the target and could have been achieved along the lines of Yash’s ‘KGF’ with a solo release and theatrical run for about a week, now seems to be a distant possibility. It’s not just the clash with a fan favourite Hollywood film that will cause this but it’s also the back to back releases in the following weeks like Ranveer Singh’s ‘83’, Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Jersey’ and more.
If you look at the larger picture here, this is going to be the case with many of the upcoming movies scheduled for the remaining part of this year and in 2022. With so many titles, big, medium and small finalising their release dates after a long gap and each wanting to lock a good one like a festival or a holiday, the clashes are simply unavoidable.
The end result of this will be that people with a limited paying capacity are going to be spoilt for too many choices and eventually even some good ones will end up losing in the process.
