The makers of Pushpa: The Rise can take a heavy breath of relief now. It is ready to go one-on-one with Spider-Man No Way Home tomorrow. The movie has collected a gigantic total of nearly Rs 140 crores from its distributors. This sum has arrived from the theatrical avenues in the country. Additionally, the non-theatrical avenues will bestow approximately Rs 80 crores. It means that the film will recover up to Rs 220 crores before its theatrical release.
There are numerous reasons why Pushpa needs a handsome profit. First and foremost is its humungous budget of Rs 250 crores. The film needs to gross more than Rs 550-600 crores to be declared a box office success. Also, it will face direct competition from the latest Spidey instalment. The latter got released in more than 3,200 theatres in India today. It will be almost impossible for the Allu Arjun project to crush thy hype behind No Way Home. Additionally, things will get more complex after the releases of 83, Matrix Resurrections, and many more big-budget projects.
The producers of the upcoming period action thriller are also worried about the ongoing cold war between the Telegu film industry and the state government of Andhra Pradesh. The latter heavily reduced the ticket prices for the theatres. However, the state High Court went in the favour of the theatre workers by suspending the govt order until further notice. In return, the state govt issued a notice to local administrations to check the licences of movie theatres today. It seems like the matter is going to last longer than expected. But yes, this messy situation will affect the box office performances of future mega-budget releases.
Only time will tell how well Pushpa: The Rise will perform in theatres. It stars Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, Sunil, Fahadh Faasil, Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj, and many more.
