In a delightful update for nostalgia seekers, a sequel / spin-off to the critically acclaimed legal comedy drama television series ‘Ally McBeal’ is reportedly in the works at ABC network. The show is in its early stages of development. Karin Gist, the writer and executive producer of several women centric shows such as ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Revenge’, is writing the ‘Ally McBeal’ sequel series.
The upcoming ‘Ally McBeal’ series will ostensibly focus on a new lead character, a young Black woman who will join the original show’s law firm straight after graduating from her law school. The protagonist is being described as the daughter of Renne Raddick, the roommate of the parent show’s titular character Ally McBeal, which was essayed by Calista Flockhart. Flockhart will purportedly make a comeback in the sequel but not as the lead character, however, that’ll be confirmed after the final script is written.
Created by David. E. Kelley, the parent show ‘Ally McBeal’ revolved around the titular character (played by Calista Flockhart) and focused on her personal and professional lives. The young lawyer joins a reputed Boston law firm Cage and Fish where her former lover Billy Thomas also works. The show also featured ‘Iron Man’ actor Robert Downey Jr. in the fourth and the fifth seasons.
‘Ally McBeal’ started airing in 1997 and ran until 2002, thereby spanning five seasons and more than hundred episodes. The show has won seven Primetime Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe awards for various categories. Even the makers of the ongoing Marvel’s Disney+ superhero series ‘She-Hulk’ have credited ‘Ally Mcbeal’ as an inspiration to their own show. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the under development ‘Ally McBeal’ sequel series.
