Binged informed its readers that Reliance has some really interesting plans for Disney India once the merger is completed. But it looks like they are just in discussion mode. Earlier, the reports said that Hotstar would lose its existence and completely merge into JioCinema. But, the new reports are something different.
In the longer run, JioCinema would prefer to have only one OTT platform which suggests a total merger. However, the platform may want to have two separate platforms initially.
The target audiences of JioCinema and Hotstar will be entirely different.
JioCinema might project themselves as a sports centric platform with some Indian content. On the other hand, Hotstar will be the entertainment hotspot with a lot of international content.
But, yet again the Reliance officials have not confirmed any of these reports officially.
It will be a better approach than simply pulling both these platforms into a merger.
But all these things can be made possible only after the merger which is currently in some troubles due to the issues raised by CCI. We have covered those things in detail and we can only wait to know what happens next.
