Amazon Prime Video has announced two big sports documentaries that will feature on its streaming platform soon. While one of them is their regular, ‘fly-in-the-wall’ documentary series, ‘All or Nothing’, based on the 2020/21 season of the Italian footballing giants, Juventus; the other documentary is based on Arsene Wenger, the legendary ex-coach of Arsenal who went on to have an unbeaten run in the Premier League during the 2003/04 season. This second sports documentary has the potential to be the most-watched football sports documentary of all time and has a good chance of beating Netflix’s, ‘Last Dance’ in viewership.
Many OTT platforms have now started to create/be part of specialized niche projects which are only associated with them. Netflix has become the go-to International streaming platform for anime AKA Japanese animation. Disney+ Hotstar has its Marvel products, Star Wars and Disney films as well as showing live football matches from the Premier League, Bundesliga and live cricket matches such as the IPL and the Cricket World Cup. SonyLIV is as much a sport streaming platform as it is a movies & web series streaming one. Amazon Prime Video has gone on to create brilliant sports documentaries – with their most memorable ones coming under the banner – ‘All or Nothing’.
This year ‘All or Nothing: Juventus‘ will premiere on the streaming platform and we expect it to get better viewing than last year’s ‘All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur’. But that will not be the biggest football documentary to release this year. No, that honour will go to ‘Arsene Wenger: Invincible’. As mentioned earlier, this documentary film will focus on Arsene Wenger and the “Invincible” season – making him the only Premier League manager to do such a feat. It will also give us an insight into his methods and how he changed Premier League football forever.
