After replicating the success of its hit show ‘Modern Love’ with new versions set in Mumbai and Hyderabad, Amazon Prime Video is all set to take the franchise a notch higher. The streaming giant is gearing up for the release of a new version of Modern Love – a Dutch version. The series is titled, ‘Modern Love Amsterdam’, and set in—where else—Amsterdam. As per the streamer, Modern Love Amsterdam will premiere globally on Prime Video in the winter of this year.
Modern Love Amsterdam is the first version of the popular Prime Video show to be centred in Europe, in the Netherlands. Earlier, Prime Video has premiered two seasons of ‘Modern Love New York’, and a season each of ‘Modern Love Mumbai’ and ‘Modern Love Hyderabad’. In the works are another Indian version – ‘Modern Love Chennai’ and a Japanese version titled ‘Modern Love Tokyo’.
‘Modern Love Amsterdam’ will feature heartwarming stories of love, loss and relationships, adapted from the popular New York Times column of the same name, but with a distinct flavor of the Netherlands. The stories are of course set in Amsterdam, in iconic locations such as the city’s train station, Amsterdam-Noord and Zuidoost.
The myriad episodes of Modern Love Amsterdam have been written and directed by some of the most stellar names of Dutch entertainment. The writers include Robert Alberdingk Thijm, Roos Ouwehand, Maud Wiemeijer, Anne Barnhoorn, and Esther Duysker; while the directors include names such as Mijke de Jong, Boudewijn Koole, Mischa Kamp, Mustafa Duygulu, and Norbert ter Hall. ‘Modern Love Amsterdam’ is produced by NL Film, part of Banijay Benelux. Sabine Brian is the producer, while Robert Alberdingk Thijm is the showrunner.
‘Modern Love Amsterdam’ will showcase special, authentic stories in which the characters all search for love in their own way. What does fidelity look like in an open relationship, or how do you deal with equality and dependence if your partner suddenly becomes disabled? The stories will show that love always wins, no matter how confusing the time we live in is.
