Like it or hate it, Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Sunny‘ is a very visual film. The Malayalam movie is essentially a one-man show – with the film depending entirely on the acting prowess of one actor – which is a rare onscreen concept in itself. Still, bringing about a film about a man, who is undergoing quarantine, is a smart way to introduce the aforementioned concept – especially since it will be very relatable. Amazon Prime Video decided to release a small clip on their official Indian YouTube channel, yesterday – check it out at the end of this article.
The entire film follows the lead character, Sunny who is portrayed by the Mollywood superstar, Jayasurya. The actor has worked in the film industry for over a decade and ‘Sunny’ is his 100th feature film. So making a film such as this which will expand his acting portfolio, especially as he reaches “his century”, probably appealed to the actor.
But no matter how much of a “one-man show” the movie tries to be, the film depends on the exemplary work of the people working behind-the-scenes such as the director, composer, cinematographer, scriptwriter, set supervisor, etc. And that is what the previously mentioned clip shows us. While we don’t hear any of them talking in the clip, the video gives us a small idea about the number of people who has to work on a film as well as their hard work – even a film which only has one actor such as ‘Sunny’. While the film wasn’t as great as it could have been, Sunny still manages to be a decent one-time watch.
As mentioned earlier, the Malayalam musical drama, Sunny, is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
