Amazon’s Uncle Frank: A Story About Two Pure Bonds

Amazon Studios is releasing Uncle Frank, which is coming out on the 25th of November on Amazon Prime Video. The movie stars Paul Bettany in quite a different role this time. He plays the role of a gay man who stays away from his family and finds it hard to go back and come out about his sexual identity in front of them. The movie is called a “Road Movie” as most of the crucial parts are filmed while the actors were on road to reach their destination.

The movie is named “Uncle Frank” for a reason because the movie comes from the point of view of his beloved niece Beth. Beth, years ago while she was still growing up, happened to have a conversation with her uncle that changed her life around and that is something that she holds very close to heart. As an adult when she visits Frank who has moved out of their home, she finds a very different side of him which makes her the happiest. She comes across his partner Wally, who he lives with and experiences the world through their lives. As the lovely uncle niece duo was getting to spend some time, they get a call of a death in the family and now Frank is puzzled whether to go or not.

Beth and Frank hit the road to pay a visit to their home but Frank is on the edge as he is unwilling to go visit them and let them know about his sexual identity. Even though he bans Wally from joining him in this trip, Wally follows behind. It’s not long when they come across each other in the middle of the road and now he has to deal with his partner and his emotions too.

The movie revolves on how Frank shares and lets his niece experience a side of life with him that people don’t see and Beth as an amazing niece shows her relentless support towards him and doesn’t let him face the music of their family alone. While this uncle-niece bond will make you want to have a similar bond with your uncle, the relation between Wally and Frank too steals the limelight at the moment. Wally understands how it can be hard for him to come out within an orthodox family that too in the 70s and decides to stay beside him no matter how much he tells him to go away.

The movie is all about emotions. Emotions related to family and emotions related to your family. This was world premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year and had a lot of positive reviews. The movie besides Paul Bettany stars Sophia Lillis and Peter Macdissi in pivotal roles.

For fans of Marvel, it will be a great change to see Bettany as someone other than our Avenger Vision.
