OTT giant Amazon Prime Video has just announced the release date for the third season of the eagerly anticipated web series ‘Inside Edge’. Directed by Kanishk Varma, the latest season of the immensely popular sports drama is slated to start streaming on the platform from 3rd December onwards. Amazon’s announcement post was marked with the words, “they just levelled up the power dynamics & we want to know it ALL”.
Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, the critically acclaimed cricket-based show ‘Inside Edge’ was Amazon Prime Video’s first Indian original web series that came out in July 2017 and was subsequently nominated for the prestigious International Emmy Awards. Thereafter, the second season of the show came out more than two years later in December 2019.
Created by Karan Anshuman (who also directed Amazon’s cult show ‘Mirzapur’), ‘Inside Edge’ revolves around the ups and downs of a fictional T20 cricket team called Mumbai Mavericks, which is one of the many teams playing in the high profile Powerplay League.
Regarding ‘Inside Edge’ S3, Ritesh Sidhwani had stated that “We are thrilled to chronicle the next gripping phase of the journey of Mumbai Mavericks, which will ultimately decide the fate of the team that has battled many odds.”
Besides an intriguing premise, ‘Inside Edge’ S3 boasts of a talented cast that includes the supremely underrated Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadha, Tanuj Virwani, Aamir Bashir, Akshay Oberoi, and Amit Sial amongst others. Following the earlier trend, ‘Inside Edge’ third season will also comprise ten episodes.
Amazon Prime Video’s last web series was the supernatural show ‘The Last Hour’ starring Sanjay Kapoor, Shahana Goswami, and Raima Sen. The series was admired for its performances and atmospherics, however, was also criticized by some viewers for its execution.
So, it would be interesting to see the arrival of ‘Inside Edge’ at this juncture. Considering the show’s premise, star cast, and audience’s admiration for the show, chances are high that ‘Inside Edge’ will yet again add an ‘edge’ for Amazon Prime Video to stand out in the cut-throat OTT world.
