Amazon Prime Video’s ‘The Rig’ Announces All Star Cast!

By Binged Bureau - Mar 18, 2021 @ 05:03 pm

Amazon Prime UK just announced the cast for its upcoming Scottish limited series ‘The Rig’ and it has some big names. ‘Game of Thrones’ star Iain Glen and Emily Hampshire from ‘Schitt’s Creek’ are two of the big names expected to join this all star cast. Due to the series being shot on an oil rig in Scotland and at FirstStage Studios in Edinburgh, ‘The Rig’ will become the first Amazon Original project to be filmed exclusively in Scotland.

Joining Glen and Hampshire are Martin Compston from ‘Line Of Duty’ who will play communications officer Fulmer Hamilton and Mark Bonnar from ‘Quiz’ will portray deck foreman Alwyn Evans. Rochenda Sandall from ‘Small Axe’ will portray medic Cat Braithwaite, Owen Teale (also from ‘Game Of Thrones’) will play the head driller Lars Hutton, Richard Pepple from Shondaland’s ‘Bridgerton’ as crew boss Grant Dunlin and Calvin Demba from ‘Life’ will be drill hand Baz Roberts. But wait! – there’s more – Emun Elliott from ‘Guilt’ will be rig mechanic Leck Longman, Abraham Popoola from the upcoming ‘101 Dalmatians’ spin-off feature ‘Cruella’ will be the rig crane driver Easter Ayodeji, Stuart McQuarrie from ‘Des’ will be head chef Colin Murchison and Molly Vevers from ‘The Spanish Princess’ as the roustabout Heather Shaw. Our series leads will be portrayed by Glen and Hampshire who will play Magnus MacMillan, the offshore installation manager of the rig & leader of the crew and Rose Mason, the scientist and oil company rep, respectively.

‘The Rig’ is a six-part mini series which will be directed by ‘Line of Duty’ and ‘Bodyguard’ director John Strickland. The drama thriller series will be set on the Kinloch Bravo oil rig, stationed off the Scottish coast in the turbulent waters of the North Sea. When the Bravo crew is expected to return to the mainland, a heavy and all-encompassing fog rolls through. As heavy tremors hit the rig and cause all their communications with shore to get cut-off, the Bravo crew is forced to find out the unknown driving force behind the unexplainable phenomena. But as a major accident occurs, the Bravo crew begins to lose faith in each other.

‘The Rig’ will start shooting in the aforementioned location in Scotland next month. This David Macpherson created thriller is produced by Wild Mercury Productions which is a part of Banijay UK. If everything goes well, we expect the Amazon original to drop on Amazon Prime Video by the end of this year, or in the early months of 2022.
