Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America is coming to Amazon Prime Video (for those who didn’t know) and the OTT giant dropped a (second) trailer of the upcoming comedy feature. Coming 2 America will release on the streaming platform in the first week of March 2021. The movie will see most of the prequel movie’s cast returning along with a few new ones. The trailer has given us a funny, yet brilliant insight into the upcoming film.
King Akeem (formerly Prince Akeem) and his personal aide/ best friend Semmi returns to America when he finds out that he has a son from a previous romantic tryst. He meets a few of the previous characters from the last time around in the 1988 sequel Coming to America, such as barbers, Clarence and Morris. He eventually meets his son Lavelle (portrayed by Jermain Fowler) and his mother, portrayed by Leslie Jones.
Leslie Jones is brilliance personified in this trailer and Fowler keeps up with her every step of the way (in the trailer, at the very least). These two new characters are brilliant enough to make anyone watch this film, but wait! There is more. King Akeem has a daughter – Princess Meeka Joffer, who wants to be Queen of Zamunda. But according to the country’s laws, only a man can inherit the throne. So we will see Lavelle and Meeka battle it out for the throne – be it through verbal or physical prowess, that remains to be seen. Wesley Snipes will play General Izzi, the elder brother of Akeem’s spurned bride-to-be, Imani Izzi. Check out the trailer below, at the end of the article.
Arsenio Hall, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Shari Headley, Teyana Taylor, Wesley Snipes and James Earl Jones are a few many stars reprising roles and featuring in new ones alongside Eddie Murphy in Coming 2 America. Kenya Barris, Barry W. Blaustein and David Sheffield wrote the screenplay to the story provided by Barry W. Blaustein, David Sheffield and Justin Kanew. Craig Brewer is directing the feature length film.
Amazon Prime Video will premier Coming 2 America on March 5th 2021.
