Small Axe is an upcoming anthology movie series comprising of 5 different movies. The movie is directed by Steve McQueen who also serves as the writer of all the five stories along with Corttia Newland and Alastair Siddons. Small Axe has been produced by BBC Studios and Amazon studios. Seeing all the outbreak and the movement like “Black Lives Matter”, it is a good time to release a show will shows the mistreatment the black community has been going through all these years.
The miniseries comprises of 5 different movies named :- Mangrove, Lover’s Rock, Red, White and Blue, Alex Wheatle and Education. The five films is set between 1969-1982. The first movie will arrive on November 20th and then the rest will be releasing weekly. With several of stories are based on real life, it will be a interesting watch. Here are the stories:-
1. Mangrove
It focuses on the story of Frank Crichlow who runs a restaurant named Mangrove in the Notting Hill. Mangrove is filled with people like locals, Intellectuals, activists etc. The movie will show how there were several raids conducted by the police on the peaceful restaurant which led to a highly publicized trial between the protesters and the government.
Mangrove will be releasing on November 20th 2020.
2. Lover’s Rock
This is a romantic movie take in the midst of a struggle in the society. Lover’s Rock follow the black youth who were unwelcomed in the London Nightclubs but found relief in music and houseparties. The movie will follow a blooming romance between a young couple in the decades of 1980s.
Lover’s Rock arrives on Prime Video on November 27th 2020.
3. Education
Education is the third movie in the Small Axe series, it focuses on a 12 year old young child named Kingsley who is in awe of astronauts and rockets, infact he looks up to the profession. One day he is called into the dean’s office and is told that he needs to go to a different school where they teach the children with “special needs”. His parents are oblivious to this fact until this starts to happen with every black child in their society. A group of women start a protest against the officials who are depriving black children for their educational rights.
Education will be arriving on December 4th 2020.
4. Alex Wheatle
The biographical drama is based on the real life award winning writer Alex Wheatle. The story will take us into a journey of Alex Wheatle who was brought up in a white foster home where he was continuously neglected until is youth. His life takes a turn when he arrives at Brixton. He finds out the true value of himself and his life when he gets companionship of his people and with that he finds his passion of music. The movie is set on the famous Brixton Uprising in 1981.
Alex Wheatle will be arriving on December 11th 2020.
5. Red, White and Blue
Red, White and Blue is the fifth and final movie in Small Axe miniseries. It follows the real life story of Leroy Logan. The movie will focus on Logan’s life. He works as a forensic scientist with a longing to pursue more than his desk job. His life takes a turn when he sees his father getting assaulted by policemen. Logan remembers his past where in his childhood all he wanted to do was become a police officer so that he could stop racism from happening. He actually pursues it after this incident, despite several warnings by his father. But ultimately finds himself on the butt of all racial slurs in his job in the Metropolitan Police Force.
The movie will be arriving on December 18th 2020.
