Amazon prime has recently released the trailer for their limited anthology series ‘Them’ as it explores the terrors of the America of the 50s. the first season of ‘Them; focuses on a black family that moves from North Carolina to an all-white neighbourhood in Los Angeles in the period which was also known as the great migration.
Everything seems to be going good but things aren’t always so easy for the marginalised people of the community as their safe haven called home slowly becomes a place that is constantly being attacked by vicious forces that threaten their peaceful existence.
‘Them’ stars the likes of Deborah Ayorinde, Ashley Thomas, Alison Pill, Shahadi Wright Joseph, 0elody Hurd, and Ryan Kwanten. Racism has been a big obstacle in our world and even after years of progress many have to still suffer the consequences of it silently. Even though there are more ways of bringing this to the fore it is still rampant in many parts of the world.
In the 1950s when the world wasn’t as connected and open-minded as it is now survival was even tougher for a black family and this series aims to shed light on the struggles that had to be faced by such families.
All of this hostility creates a classic ‘Us vs Them’ situation and the slow haunting music in the background creates a tone of underlying darkness but it isn’t just the unfriendly neighbour next door but also a mysterious force that is creating havoc amongst the members of the family.
Amazon Prime’s ‘Them’ will release only on Amazon Prime Video on 9th April
