Last year, it was officially announced that a Blade Runner television series titled ‘Blade Runner 2099’ was in the works. The limited series is slated to release on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform globally. It’s a sequel to the movie ‘Blade Runner 2049’.
And now, as per the latest update, Prime Video’s ‘Blade Runner 2099’ series has tapped the Emmy nominated Canadian filmmaker Jeremy Podeswa to direct its pilot (opening episode).
Jeremy Podeswa is well known for directing multiple episodes of the globally popular series ‘Game of Thrones’. Besides GOT, the talented filmmaker has also directed episodes of other television series including ‘Six Feet Under’, ‘Dexter’, ‘The Pacific’, ‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Homeland’, and ‘True Detective’, amongst others.
Helmer of the parent Harrison Ford starrer 1982 film ‘Blade Runner’ – Ridley Scott will serve as one of the executive producers for the ‘Blade Runner 2099’ series. A sequel to the cult sci-fi thriller titled ‘Blade Runner 2049’ was released in 2017 and it featured Ryan Gosling in the lead role.
The parent film ‘Blade Runner’ was set in a dystopian world and revolved around the titular protagonist (Harrison Ford) who is given the task to hunt down a group of genetically bioengineered replicants who look like humans. It was inspired from Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep’?
The sequel ‘Blade Runner 2049’ was directed by Denis Villeneuve and was set thirty years after the original film’s events. The story follows a blade runner named K (Ryan Gosling), who uncovers a critical secret that leads him to find another Blade Runner whose whereabouts are unknown for three decades. However, as of now, the plot details for Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Blade Runner 2099’ series are currently not known.
