Amazon Prime Video has placed a straight-to-series order with Rachel Weisz for the gender swapped adaptation of David Cronenberg’s ’80s cult classic ‘Dead Ringers’. This will mark Rachel Weisz’s TV debut who alongside starring in the series will also executive produce it.
The original ’80s Dead Ringers featured Jeremy Irons who played the role of Mantle twins which will now be portrayed by the Oscar winning actress Weisz in this adapted series version of Amazon Prime Video. Alice Birch known for ‘Normal People’ has been roped in as the showrunner and writer for the series.
This rebooted version of Dead Ringers is the story of the ‘Mantle twins who are brilliant, successful and extraordinary gynecologists. They share everything including drugs and lovers and are on a mission to push the boundaries on medical ethics with their illegal yet pioneering research in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s healthcare and the issues faced by it to the forefront’. This thrilling series will take us on a journey to dark, unknown, strange places.
The original series is being bankrolled by Annapurna Television and Amazon Studios. It will be executive produced by Rachel Weisz, Stacy O’Neil, and Alice Birch, along with Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, and Ali Krug via Annapurna Television and by James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall via Morgan Creek Entertainment.
Rachel Weisz was last seen in ‘The Favourite’ for which she got nominated at the Oscars in the best supporting actress category. Moreover, she will next be seen in Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ alongside Scarlett Johansson.
