Amazon Prime Video has taken a massive and game-changing decision. Exactly opposite to Netflix, Prime Video is going to invest about $1 Billion in releasing their original films in theaters.
If you remember then Binged reported that Netflix will ultimately stop releasing their original films in theaters. Earlier they used to screen their movies such as The Gray Man in theaters. It would help critics give an idea about how the film is. Even the plan is the same with Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery as it is already playing in the USA theaters. But these are not gonna continue for long.
Regardless, Amazon Prime Video will make 12 to 15 movies per year that would ultimately find a release in theaters. This way they are working on the plan, however, 2023 is not the year it will be implemented fully. They’ll start with a smaller number of films and ultimately increase the frequency.
This strategy is one more example of the aggressive policy Amazon is adopting to strengthen the Prime Video platform. Be it Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power or this decision, Prime Video is certainly making itself more visible than they currently are.
They are nowhere close to Netflix when it comes to making original movies but they’ll slowly reach a point where people in the west recognize the need to subscribe to Prime Video.
Mind you that Prime Video in India is a very prominent platform but not in the western world.
Thus, Netflix’s decision is a reflection of its saturation in the movie business which is quite the contrast for Prime Video.
