Amazon Prime Video has won the fierce bidding wars to develop acclaimed novel ‘My Policeman’ for the screen. It has secured the developing rights to the novel, and has signed a deal with Berlanti Schechter Productions to produce the as-yet-unnamed feature film to be based on My Policeman.
Reportedly, Amazon Prime is keen to cast singer turned actor Harry Styles (Dunkirk) and Lily James (Cinderella, Baby Driver, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) as leads in the film. As per Deadline, which first broke the news, Tony Award winning director Michael Grandage will helm the direction of the film, while the screenplay will be adapted from the novel by by Oscar-nominated writer, Ron Nyswaner.
The story of My Policeman is eclectic and far removed from the usual. Set in the backdrop of the 1990s, it centres on a couple Tom and Marion, who take in aging invalid Patrick into their home. Patrick’s arrival compels the threesome to delve into the past – of a time forty years ago – when Tom and Patrick had given themselves to a torrid affair when homosexuality was still illegal.
This is the second project that Harry Styles has landed within a week, the first being Don’t Worry Darling, with Dakota Johnson and Florence Pugh. Lily James has the Gothic drama Rebecca coming up on Netflix next month. She co-stars with Armie Hammer and Kristin Scott Thomas.
