Amazon recently announced that their upcoming anthology television series titled ‘Solos’ is set to release on Prime Video online streaming platform from May 21, 2021, onwards. The series would be helmed by David Weil (the man behind the Al Pacino starrer television show ‘Hunters’).
The highly anticipated science-fiction anthology show features an A-list ensemble cast including the Academy Award-winning actors Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby), Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables), and Helen Mirren (The Queen) besides featuring ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ actor Anthony Mackie (Incidentally, Mackie had also featured in a ‘Black Mirror’ episode).
Amazon has also revealed some stunning photos from the sci-fi show, that will reportedly narrate seven character-driven stories revolving around the central idea that the ‘human experience’ connects everyone during people’s most isolated moments.
According to Amazon Studios, A.I. bots, scheming smart homes, illegal memory transplants, and more will come to the fore — as the primary protagonists grapple with time travel.
Regarding the project, Weil had earlier said “I am beyond thrilled to be bringing Solos to life alongside this group of artists who I so deeply admire. I created this piece with a desire to capture stories about connection, hope and the search for that common hum of humanity that binds us all. I’m immensely grateful to Jennifer Salke and my incredible partners at Amazon for their unwavering support and collaboration on this special project.”
‘Solos’ is seemingly reminiscent of another celebrated sci-fi anthology Netflix television series ‘Black Mirror’, which is said to be inspired by another cult anthology show ‘The Twilight Zone’. ‘Black Mirror’ comprised standalone episodes that extrapolated the future of the various technologies that we use today for our convenience, and how their evolution can instead start interfering with our lives.
A similar show that followed the sci-fi anthology format was Amazon’s Original series – ‘Electric Dreams’, which was based on the works of eminent science fiction writer Philip K. Dick. Moreover, another brilliant Amazon original show ‘Tales from the Loop’ is worth watching for sci-fi enthusiasts. You can watch these two shows on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform.
