Amazon’s “Birds Of Paradise”: Intense Ballet, Drama & More!

Ballet, a dance form that is all so graceful and beautiful to the outside world. Pretty dresses, pretty stories, beautiful ballerinas, and ballerinos make the dance form more interesting than ever. There are so many movies and series made on the lives of people who have dedicated themselves to Ballet. Some have shown the beauty, some have shown how it is someone’s lifeline while few others have shown the dark side of this utterly magical dance form. Now, adding to the list of ballet movies comes another amazing addition from Amazon Prime Video and we have one word to describe- intense.

Amazon Prime Video recently dropped the trailer for its ballet drama film titled “Birds of Paradise”. The movie directed and written by the talented Sarah Adina Smith streams on Amazon Prime Video on the 24th of September. The movie stars Diana Silvers, Kristine Froseth, and Golden Globe winner Jacqueline Bisset in the lead roles. The movie is based on the book “Bright Burning Stars” by A.K. Small.

Birds of Paradise is nothing less than a film filled to brim with competition and ballet, with intense drama at the core of the story. The movie is based around two ballerinas who enter a prestigious ballet school in Paris, both of them aiming to win the coveted prize- a contract with the Parisian Opera’s ballet company. But all these will only come after every single one of the dance schools goes through gruelling tests and intense practice sessions that can make and break someone.

While one wants to be No. 1, the other needs to maintain her position as the Ballet Prodigy. As both of them are pushed to their limits, till the point they reach their breaking point, they find solace in each other only to hate each other all over again. All this comes up when the female partner spot for top male dancer Felipe, opens up and they need to win the spot at any cost. From love to friendship, to being students, they undergo everything, but what cost?

An intense ballet drama at the core, this will remind people of the Natalie Portman-Mila Kunis starrer “Black Swan”, but much less gruesome and dark. The movie is well balanced in showing the good, the bad, and the extremely intense stuff that goes around in Ballet companies all around the world. To witness how the movie unfolds, stream “Birds of Paradise” on Amazon Prime Video on the 24th of September and get a taste of what ballet is really like from the inside.
