Bengal is burning, and Bengal wants justice. The current socio-political scenario in West Bengal is at one of its worst stages, and the public is boycotting every possible form of entertainment, especially going to theaters. This is already affecting the Bengali film industry.
Though titles like Babli and Padatik are still playing, many films that were scheduled to release after the tragic incident at RG Kar Medical College have been indefinitely postponed. The upcoming title Putul Nacher Itikotha is likely to follow this trend.
As of now, there is no trailer, which is odd given that the film is supposed to release on September 13th. Originally, it was set for release on September 6th but was delayed by a week. Even more shocking—if you assume there’s a trailer—brace yourself for worse news: there isn’t even a poster for the film.
You might think this suggests the film will be mediocre, but that’s not the case.
Putul Nacher Itikotha is based on the iconic novel by Manik Bandyopadhyay, one of the most celebrated works in Bengali literature. Additionally, the cast is stellar, featuring Abir Chatterjee, Parambrata Chatterjee, and Jaya Ahsan—three of the most beloved stars in the Bengali film industry.
Directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay, known for films like Asamapta, Shesher Kobita, and Posham Pa, you can certainly expect something remarkable. Mukhopadhyay has always delivered quality work when he returns to his roots and creates films for the Bengali industry. However, at the moment, the film’s fate remains uncertain.
It seems as though Mukhopadhyay and the producer, Kaleidoscope, have forgotten about the film. While it’s understandable that this is not the time for marketing, even before the incident, updates about the film were sparse, which is strange given its potential. Still, we can hope for some movement once Bengal begins to heal. Until then, follow Binged for updates on your favorite film industries and their latest developments.
