Amitabh Bachchan Stands Tall as Football Coach in ‘Jhund’ Trailer

Earlier this month, the poster and a teaser for legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan’s eagerly-anticipated sports film ‘Jhund’ was unveiled by the makers which had garnered widespread appreciation from fans and movie buffs. As aptly stated in the film’s poster ‘big film on big screen’, ‘Jhund’ is set for a theatrical release on 4th March 2022. And now, as promised earlier, the makers have just released the trailer for ‘Jhund’.

‘Jhund’ trailer portrays a bunch of undisciplined street children and some of their criminal activities like chain snatching, etc. The trailer also showcases Amitabh Bachchan’s efforts and the lengths to which he goes to rehabilitate these seemingly good-for-nothing but immensely skilled street kids into a formidable football team. The trailer has adequate doses of humor, emotions, and sports action in equal proportions.

Helmed by Nagraj Manjule, the Amitabh Bachchan starrer biographical sports drama film is reportedly based on the life of the founder of NGO Slum Soccer Vijay Barse. The veteran actor is essaying the role of a professor who encourages a ragtag bunch of street children to make a football team. How he transforms an untrained Jhund (crowd) against all odds into a proper team ostensibly forms the film’s crux.

For the unversed, the film’s inspiration Vijay Barse is a Nagpur-based social worker who was employed as a sports teacher. He had instituted Slum Soccer in the year 2001 after observing some underprivileged kids playing football.

Moreover, ‘Jhund’ is not the first time Vijay Barse’s inspiring story will be showcased on the screen. Because previously, his journey was effectively portrayed in Aamir Khan’s immensely acclaimed talk show ‘Satyamev Jayate’.

The director of ‘Jhund’ Nagraj Manjule has previously helmed an inter-caste drama ‘Fandry’ and the romantic drama movie ‘Sairat’. Besides, the filmmaker has also recently directed an episode of Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Unpaused: Naya Safar’ and is all geared up for his next film based on the life of Indian warrior-king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj starring Riteish Deshmukh.

Besides ‘Jhund’, Amitabh Bachchan’s list of upcoming films includes Ajay Devgn’s directorial ‘Mayday’, Ayan Mukherjee’s ‘Brahmastra’ co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Uunchai’, and Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi flick co-starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone.
