Can you believe it has been more than four years since Sony dropped Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in the theatres worldwide? No one was able to predict its outcome in terms of box office collection during that time. But Miles Morales’ first film went beyond our wildest expectations and imaginations. And its follow-up, Across the Spider-Verse, will surely go bigger and crazier than the first instalment, tackling more parallel universes and several art styles. One of the film’s producers, Amy Pascal, has revealed that the Spider-Verse sequel will be a love story between Miles and Gwen.
Both Miles and Gwen returned to their respective universes during the final moments of Into the Spider-Verse. However, we see the duo hanging out with each other again in Across the Spider-Verse. Their growing young love will be the heart and soul of the forthcoming sequel.
This is what Amy Pascal said in her recent interview with Empire:
“The danger with a sequel is to go bigger just for bigger’s sake. But all the bells and whistles are no good unless you care. And the thing you’ll care about most deeply is the connection between our young Spider-heroes. This movie is a love story between Miles and Gwen.”
Although, this scenario may not sit well with Daniel Kaluuya’s Spider-Punk, as Gwen has been hanging out with him. According to co-helmer Kemp Powers, Miles will think ‘how close are these two?’ after seeing Gwen don Converse Chuck Taylors, gifted to her by Spider-Punk.
Things may get complicated between Miles and Gwen as they are best friends first. Additionally, they will be on a dangerous mission of saving every Spider-People from every universe from a mysterious threat, capable of sparking a catastrophic disaster.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will hit theatres globally on June 2. Stay tuned for more updates.
