2024 has witnessed the international ripples caused by Indian titles multiple times and at multiple locations. And the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, which took place between 15 and 25 February 2024, was no different.
Acclaimed Tamil film director and screenwriter PS Vinothraj’s intense sophomore directorial venture, ‘Kottukkaali’ aka ‘The Adamant Girl’ premiered to widespread acclaim not only at the Berlin Festival, but also the Transilvania International Film Festival. And now, the title starring Soori and Anna Ben, is all set for an August 23 theatrical release.
The trailer for the much-awaited film, set against the backdrop of a hen’s ominous clucking, follows Soori’s character and his pals as they take Anna’s character to pay a visit to an exorcist. When the crescendo peaks, tensions rise high all around. The plotline, a drama, is aimed at addressing misogyny, superstition, and the omnipresent complexity of human emotions.
Wading through small, labyrinthine lanes surrounded by lush greenery, Meena’s family and fiancée are hoping for one thing and one thing alone: a successful exorcism to force the evil spirit that seems to have possessed Meena and rendered her speechless. The reason behind all this: she dared to fall in love with a man belonging to a ‘lower caste’.
For those waiting desperately for the title to release in cinemas, hold on just a little longer!
