Shahid Kapoor’s much awaited OTT debut ‘Farzi’ is all set to start streaming on the Amazon Prime Video platform from 10th February onwards. Multiple factors including the show’s talented cast, it’s intriguing premise and ‘The Family Man’ director duo Raj & DK have piqued the curiosity quotient amongst OTT audiences.
There is one interesting trivia about the ‘Farzi’ web series which might have escaped your attention, or you might have forgotten. It’s that Raj & DK’s ‘Farzi’ is a project which initially started taking shape back in 2014. But at that time, it was supposed to be a feature film carrying the same name rather than a web series. Because there weren’t any OTT platforms back then for the project to be made in a web series format.
Shahid Kapoor was roped in as the lead actor in the unmade ‘Farzi’ movie and Nawazuddin Siddiqui was supposed to essay the role of an undercover cop. Interestingly, in the web series, another fine actor Vijay Sethupathy is playing the cop’s part instead of Nawazuddin Siddique.
The apparent reason which was doing the rounds for the ‘Farzi’ movie not moving forward back then was that Raj & DK’s 2014 film ‘Happy Ending’ starring Saif Ali Khan had met with an insipid box-office response. And consequently the ‘Farzi’ project was indefinitely delayed.
Having said that, we are mighty glad that an original story like ‘Farzi’ has got a new lease of life after the advent and proliferation of OTT platforms in India.
Set against the backdrop of counterfeit currency business, ‘Farzi’ features Shahid Kapoor as an ambitious, money loving man who hatches a crazy plan to become rich overnight. He essays the role of a small-time artist who uses his unique skills to design a con job using his grandfather’s printing press. But soon after, he is pursued by a relentless cop who is hellbent on putting an end to the high stakes con game. The web series also features Kay Kay Menon, Raashii Khanna, Amol Palekar, and Regina Cassandra in pivotal roles.
