Ana De Armas will feature in Lionsgate’s planned John Wick spinoff film, titled ‘Ballerina’. Production company Lionsgate hopes to turn the film into another action franchise if the venture proves to be a success. This will be the first time that Ana De Armas will spearhead an out and out action film.
The actress had a few action sequences in her recent James Bond flick, ‘No Time To Die’, including a memorable one that impressed critics and audiences.
The story of ‘Ballerina‘ centres on a revenge drama. Ana De Armas will play a female assassin who will be out to extract revenge from those who killed her family. Len Wiseman (Underworld) will direct the film, out of a script written by Shay Hatten. Hatten has written ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’ and co-written ‘Army Of The Dead’ in the recent past. He is also writing ‘John Wick Chapter 4′ and John Wick Chapter 5’.
Chad Stahelski, director of ‘John Wick 4’ is producing ‘Ballerina’, along with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee. Lionsgate is also the owner of the John Wick franchise. ‘John Wick Chapter 4’ is slated to release in theatres on May 27, 2022. It has Keanu Reeves returning for the titular role, along with Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne, Donnie Yen, Scott Adkins, Mark Zaror, Bill Skarsgard, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama and Clancy Brown.
There’s another spinoff on John Wick in the works, a series titled ‘The Continental’, on the titular hotel that features prominently in the film franchise.
