After hitting the big screens last month, Sandeep Vanga Reddy’s gangster action movie ‘Animal’ turned out to be a massive box office blockbuster. The film grossed over a whopping Rs.900 crores globally and became the third highest grossing Indian movie of 2023 (after Jawan and Pathaan). Ranbir Kapoor bagged the ‘Best Actor’ Filmfare Award as well.
After delivering a fantastic theatrical performance, ‘Animal’ started streaming on the Netflix OTT platform globally last Friday. And it turns out that the much talked about Indian film has not only made a mark on Indian OTT audiences, but it has also cracked the Netflix top 10 non-English films list for the 22nd Jan – 28th Jan week.
As per the latest Netflix top ten international list, ‘Animal’ is placed on an impressive Rank 4. The film has registered a massive 6.2 million views this week. The three non-English films which are ahead of ‘Animal’ are the Oscar contender ‘Society of the Snow’, ‘Sixty Minutes’, and ‘Badland Hunters’. So, after ‘Jaane Jaan’, ‘Animal’ is apparently the biggest debut for an Indian film on the said Netflix top ten list.
Besides ‘Animal’, another Indian film ‘Salaar’ is also present on the Netflix top 10 list, It’s on Rank 6 and has received a still impressive 1.9 million views this week for the same period. But the interesting thing about ‘Animal’ is that it was released on Netflix on 26th January, but the Netflix top ten list is for the period of 22-28 January. So, Animal’s OTT impact is phenomenal.
Helmed by Sandeep Vanga Reddy, the underlying plot of the gangster action drama ‘Animal’ revolves around a complicated father-son relationship (played by Anil Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor) and how the son transforms into a violent psychopath. It also features Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead and Bobby Deol as the antagonist.
