Violence, sex, action…if Sandeep Reddy Vanga had managed to insert a ghost in the movie then Animal would be a perfect homage to the B Grade Hindi movies of the 1980s and 90s but at a much grander scale.
Needless to say, Animal excels in all the manners perfectly. It has nice editing (ignore the length), brilliant BGM, good colour tone blah blah blah. But, the film is extremely problematic and it has nothing substantial to offer.
SPOILER ALERT
It is not that Ranvijay Singh is an ultra-strong and genius man. It is just that, things are easy for him. He wants to marry a girl and the girl breaks her engagement through the help of her own brother and marries Ranvijay.
He wants to kill a man? He goes into a secure meeting and strangles the enemy to death.
He wants to buy brotherhood after 20 years? He goes to his village, speaks a little Punjabi and uses all his brothers as slaves.
He wants to kill his main enemy? Well, the bad guy’s men would just stand like a statue while the hero cuts his throat,
The wife has no strong personality, the spy rats out in his favour, the father’s attacker gets caught in a single move and there is no law enforcement ever. There is no police, in India and outside as well.
The whole movie hits on testosterone and does a pretty well job. But Vanga has certainly cracked a code. He got immense negativity as a filmmaker after Arjun Reddy/Kabir Singh. Well, he used everything and magnified it to a great extent.
A lot of times, you would feel that Vanga is deliberately adding some scenes just to piss off the critics. It is like the behaviour of an obstinate child who is just a rebel for the sake of being a rebel. But, looks like this is actually working at the box office. So Animal is like a machine where you put all the negativity and what comes out is a big bag of money.
People are loving the film and probably that’s all that matters to the producers.
