The Kollywood Box Office is buzzing and how! With Sivakarthikeyan’s Doctor‘ being the first Indian film post the second Covid wave to gross 100 crores, the fate of future releases are only looking better. It’s going to be one helluva Diwali with two hugely-awaited films, Rajinikanth’s ‘Annaatthe’ and the Arya-Vishal starrer ‘Enemy’ hitting screens on November 4. Both releases have fought it out for the maximum number of cinema screens, with the former severely impacting the latter. Post an amicable settlement, both films are ready for release and box office predictions are in full swing!
The situation currently stands at ‘Annaatthe‘ hogging the screen count with 800 screens in Tamil Nadu, with ‘Enemy’ having around 250 screens. It was reported earlier that the makers of ‘Enemy’ sought help from the Producers Council to secure the desired number of screens for their film in order to make decent profits. Accordingly, the opening day figures being predicted for ‘Annaatthe’ in Tamil Nadu are close to an exorbitant 20-22 crores, whereas those of ‘Enemy’ currently stand between 6-8 crores. Interestingly, both films are also dominating the Tollywood box office with their Telugu dubbed versions.
‘Annaatthe’ has already set a record for over 1200 screens overseas, the maximum for any Tamil film yet. The film will be screened in over 3000 screens worldwide, with a total gross being estimated at a whopping 40-45 crores for day 1! With Tamil Nadu theatres operating at full capacity, both films are likely to record housefull shows through the festive weekend, the first shows starting as early as 4 am! ‘Annaatthe’ is already seeing superb advance bookings, with several cinema theatres announcing housefull shows throughout Tamil Nadu. It remains to be seen what records the two films make, though viewers are surely in for a treat this Diwali
