Considering the overall lack of titles that are being screened in theatres across the country, one would expect upcoming titles to be distributed well across the calendar. But no, no such tactic is being followed. If anything, what is continuing to happen is that a few alternate weekends are peppered with releases, instead.
After the box-office clash between ‘Singham Again’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’, the upcoming weekend is getting all geared up to witness yet another clash. Only this time, it will not be amongst only Hindi titles. Slated for a November 14 release, is the highly anticipated Suriya starrer ‘Kanguva’, accompanied by the Telugu period action drama ‘Matka’.
This will be followed by the release of the Kannada neo noir action thriller ‘Bhairathi Ranagal’, the English period action film ‘Gladiator II’, as well as the historical Hindi drama ‘The Sabarmati Report’, all on November 15.
Taking into consideration that South Indian audiences exhibit exceptional loyalty to films helmed in their mother tongues, as well as the fact that ‘Gladiator II’ is being accompanied by raging positive reviews, the only title that seems to be at a disadvantage is ‘The Sabarmati Report’.
Additionally, considering the political undertones of the film, there is a very high chance that it does not perform well at the box-office. In that case, however, it will have the opportunity to impress audiences as and when it gets an OTT release!
