Welcome to the world of John Wick as the franchise spreads its wings for good. It was necessary for the universe to get a shakeup, especially with new productions, as a shift from John Wick was practically necessary.
It was reported that they are making “Ballerina,” a John Wick spin-off with Ana De Armas. But there is another exciting piece of news. If you loved the blind assassin Caine in John Wick 4, Lionsgate has confirmed a new spin-off.
Donnie Yen’s character Caine received critical acclaim, not only flourishing in terms of acting but also bringing something special to the plot. He ensured the action didn’t go stale, offering a style much different from the typical John Wick action, making the sequences even better.
One more exciting update about the spin-off is that Robert Askins will be writing the screenplay. For those unaware, Askins wrote “Umbrella Academy” for Netflix, and he will definitely excel in this category.
The production of the Caine-centric film starts next year in Hong Kong, with Lionsgate potentially releasing it in early 2026, after “Ballerina.”
The Caine spin-off, under Chad Stahelski’s development deal with Lionsgate, will be produced by Stahelski through 87Eleven Entertainment and by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee from Thunder Road, as part of expanding the “John Wick” action franchise.
As for the plot, it will focus on the aftermath of John Wick 4, as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table. While the storyline details are not guaranteed, if they invest in action, it will offer a different spice altogether.
Yen had a great experience in John Wick 4, and the partnership might extend beyond just one spin-off. “Working on ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ was an extraordinary experience. The reason these films resonate so deeply is that Chad, Basil, Erica, and I push ourselves to create action, fights, and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive, and artistic but also expressive of character, story, and emotion. Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role.”
