Best known for his film ‘The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão’, Brazilian film director and visual artist Karim Aïnouz is also known for features like ‘Futuro Beach’, ‘Firebrand’, ‘Love for Sale’, and more. His next feature is one of the hottest projects announced at the Cannes Film Festival previously this week.
As announced Hollywood stars Kristen Stewart, Josh O’Connor, and Elle Fanning have officially signed to co-star in ‘Rosebushpruning’, Aïnouz’s next venture.
The plot of the film will follow a script written by Efthimis Filippou, a co-writer on Yorgos Lanthimos’ highly anticipated ‘Kinds of Kindness’, and will be adapted from Marco Bellocchio’s debut feature ‘Fists in the Pocket’, a drama that revolutionized Italian cinema and storytelling at the time of its release, 50 years ago.
‘Rosebushpruning’ will revolve around a young man who plots the murders of his dysfunctional family, told in the form of a dark, satirical tale. The film will also be an example of the ‘explosion of the traditional patriarchal familial setup’.
Stewart, fresh off the success of her latest romantic thriller ‘Love Me’, has an upcoming American comedy road trip film ‘Sacramento’. Connor has been in the headlines for quite some time now with the release of his highly anticipated sports dramedy ‘Challengers’ from Luca Gudagnino. Fanning on the other hand, has titles like ‘A Complete Unknown’, ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’, and more upcoming.
