Today there was another announcement in B-town. T-series announced that they have locked Taapsee Pannu in an anthology that will be directed by Sudhir Mishra.
Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha who worked with Taapsee in Mulk and Thappad has brought down the two together. Not only them but also Hansal Mehta has joined the list of directors in the same. This might be an attempt by T-Series to work on their OTT venture as it is highly unlikely that the film will be meant for theatrical release.
It is said to be based on the backdrop of COVID-19/lockdown. But that is the problem here. Anthology series such as Unpaused and even feature series like Sutliyaan is has already explored most aspects of lockdown. Even season 2 of Dice Media’s Operation MBBS took an unexpected turn and was based entirely on the lives of medical students during the pandemic.
So why is an anthology on an already explored subject being made?
India is showing interest in documentaries/anthologies but that would be worth it only if they are bringing something entirely new.
Currently, Bollywood is suffering from a severe originality and acceptance crisis and if the upcoming film does not turn out to be extraordinarily great then there are no healthy chances for it to receive a good response.
