A highly anticipated Bengali movie is about to hit the theatres tomorrow, and that is none other than Athhoi.
Directed by Arna Mukhopadhyay alongside Anirban Bhattacharya as creative director this movie garnered lots of appreciation in its premiere.
The movie is based on William Shakespeare’s one of the best tragedies, and that is “Othello”.
If we quote Plato, then we can also say that Athhoi is twice removed from reality, because firstly it is based on Othello and secondly it was a theatrical performance for more than 7 years, and now it is a movie.
Arna Mukhopadhyay himself wrote the screenplay of Athhoi in the lockdown period.
And tomorrow, which is 14th June, it’ll hit the theatres.
The cast of this movie includes Arna Mukhopadhyay, Anirban Bhattacharya, Sohini Sarkar and Ditipriya Roy.
The movie revolves around the character of Athhoi who is a citizen and now doctor of a village called Vinsura. Here Athhoi is the representation of Othello, played by Arna himself. His life gets infiltrated when Gogo, representation of Iago played by Anirban comes in and plants the seed of disbelief in Athhoi’s mind against Diyamona representation of Desdemona played by Sohini.
The movie is a rollercoaster ride about ambition, love, betrayal and trickery. Very few Bengali movies of this age now have this ability to evoke some strong emotion within the audience’s heart, But Atthoi has this ability to do so.
