The official trailer for the horror film ‘Cobweb’ is out now and it is pretty impressive. The film stars ‘The Boys’ actor Antony Starr, Woody Norman, Lizzy Caplan, Cleopatra Coleman and others. The screenplay of the film is written by Chris Thomas Devlin and it is directed by Samuel Bodin.
The trailer is pretty unique and despite having typical horror elements, it tries to do something very different from the cliché stories of the genre. It breaks the formula and creates something darker than just the usual ghost story, which reminds us of the likes of Jordan Peele. Cobweb is deeply rooted into family values, the treatment of children and family issues that trouble the kids.
As we get to know from the trailer, the film is about a young boy who hears a knocking sound from the wall of his room and is disturbed by the continuous sound. His parents do not believe him and think of him as overly imaginative. But the knocking sound and the ghost that haunts the child soon turn out to be connected to some dark family secret.
Antony Starr looks promising in the role and it will be a nice change to see him in such an intense role after his performance in The Boys. The film will have a theatrical release in very limited theaters on the 21st of July and then it will be premiering to LionsgatePlay. In India it will have its digital premiere soon enough. But such a film needed a wide theatrical release in India. There is a lack of original stories in the genre of horror and very few unique stories are told every year. ‘Cobweb’ looks like a breeze of fresh air and it looks like it will offer something to the dedicated cinephiles. Not releasing Cobweb in Indian theaters might be a mistake.
