Anubhav Sinha, renowned filmmaker took to twitter to announce his resignation from the so called ‘Bollywood‘. He even changed his twitter handle to ‘Anubhav Sinha (Not Bollywood)’.
He was soon joined by Sudhir Mishra and Hansal Mehta who also believe that they want to work for Hindi Film Industry and not Bollywood. All these superbly talented directors seem to have let out their frustration with the ongoing situation in the industry and the way it works.
Thappad director Sinha wrote on twitter, “ENOUGH!!! I hereby resign from Bollywood. Whatever the f*** that means.” Following which Sudhir Mishra posted, “What’s Bollywood?I came 2be partof Cinema inspired by Satyajit Ray, Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt, Ritwick Ghatak, Bimal Roy, Mrinal Sen, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, KAsif, Vijay Anand, Javed Akhtar, Tapan Sinha, Gulzar, Shekhar Kapur, Ketan Mehta, Bharatan n Aravindan etc. That’s where I’ll always be.”
Director Hansal Mehta jumped in to say that he too had quit and wrote: “Chhod diya. It never existed in the first place.” Out of all this it gets pretty clear that these filmmakers do not consider themselves a part of Bollywood, a term coined on the lines of Hollywood. Instead they believe in the core hindi film industry and will continue to be a part of it and make movies.
Anubhav Sinha is known for his movies like Thappad, Article 15, Mulk, Ra.one. While Sudhir Mishra has given fabulous films like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Dharavi and Chameli. Hansal Mehta is well known for his works like Aligarh, Omerta, Shahid.
