It is no understatement that veteran actor Anupam Kher had a blockbuster year in 2022. While big-hero films were flopping and the Hindi film industry was at a phase of uncertainty, it was his film ‘Kashmir Files’ that broke the dry spell at the Hindi box office, giving much-needed respite to the industry. Now, after having a great year as an actor, Kher is set to return to the movies, this time off-screen!
The ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ actor in a recent interaction with the media has revealed that he will be returning to the director’s seat next year. The movie’s writing is yet to be completed and it is set to follow the story of a grandfather and his autistic granddaughter. It is not yet confirmed if the movie will have the actor co-starring as well. Kher’s directorial debut was in 2002’s “Om Jai Jagadish”. After a gap of over 20 years, it will be intriguing to see the ace-actor return to direction.
While Anupam Kher is a bonafide star in India, he is quite popular in Hollywood as well. His works in Hollywood include Bradley Cooper’s ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and the hit NBC medical series ‘New Amsterdam’. He is also set to star in another international film that has been delayed for the time being. The movie will be an inter-generational story of three women whose past lives collide during an emotionally-packed summer trip to India.
After the humongous success of his 100cr+ Telugu film, ‘Karthikeya 2’ and the much-loved film ‘Uunchai’, his next outing of 2022 will be the Tamil horror film ‘CONNECT’ which will see him playing the role of an exorcist conducting an exorcism via Zoom.
With his three films this year being successes and one among them becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time, Kher is climbing heights, and how! The actor-par-excellence will also be seen in ‘IB71’ directed by Sankalp Reddy, Satish Kaushik’s ‘Kaagaz 2’, Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’, and a web series by Neeraj Pandey
