The only Indian film to make it to Cannes this year is Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming drama ‘Kennedy’. The official announcement was made yesterday by film distributor Iris Knobloch and Thierry Fremaux, director of the Cannes Film Festival.
‘Kennedy’ will make its world premiere at the prestigious 76th annual Cannes Film Festival as part of the Official Selection in the Midnight Screenings section.
In the first look photos shared today by Zee Studios viewers get a preview of Kennedy’s lead stars Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone. While Rahul is seen in a red hued still from the film with a gun in his hand, Sunny is in a glamorous vintage diva avatar with a saree and cape over it.
Anurag Kashyap has almost a decade long connection with Cannes. His first directorial film to make premiere at Cannes was the cult classic gangster drama ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ that was screened at the 2012 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, an independent selection of the Cannes Film Festival.
Later on in 2013, anthology film ‘Bombay Talkies’ where he was one of the directors, premiered under Special Screenings category at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. The same year his film ‘Ugly’ too made it to Cannes in the Directors’ Fortnight section and received a standing ovation.
His next film to premiere at Cannes was the neo-noir thriller ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ in 2016 which also premiered in the Director’s Fortnight section. And now it’s time for his latest directorial venture ‘Kennedy’ to make its debut at the the Cannes 2023.
Produced by Kashyap’s Good Bad Films, details about Kennedy’s storyline has been kept under wraps for now. Check out the first look of ‘Kennedy’ here
