It seems like Sony has plans for Anyone But You 2. Helmed by Will Gluck, the first part (2023) featured Madame Web’s Sydney Sweeney and Top Gun: Maverick’s Glen Powell. It turned out to be a surprise hit, given that it earned only $6.3 million in its opening weekend.
Euphoria fame Sydney Sweeney talked with one of the reporters from E! at Madame Web’s premiere. During the interview, she was asked if there were any plans for the sequel of Anyone But You. This is what she said:
“I can’t actually reveal all of my secrets. But Glen and I—I mean I was talking to him this morning. We’re talking about stuff. You never know, you’ll have to wait and see.”
Sony greenlighting a sequel to Anyone But You makes sense, as the film is still running strong in theatres. Despite receiving a slow start, the Sydney Sweeney starrer has minted over $173 million globally against a $25 million budget. Its storyline received some criticism, but the cast’s performances, stylish direction from Will Gluck, and the outstanding chemistry between Sweeney and Powell were enough to save the film.
The only thing that hinders the development of Anyone But You 2 is its predecessor’s ending. In the first film’s climax, we see Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) becoming a couple, ending their feud along the way. But we also know that relationships have their ups and downs as well. The sequel could dive deep into the complications of their relationship. It could also feature the return of other stars, like Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Hadley Robinson, Dermot Mulroney, Rachel Griffiths, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
