For years now, R-rated comedy has been scrutinized, questioned as the numbers took a massive dip. But Sony managed to revamp the whole scenario, and that too with a really small budget. Sony’s Anyone But You turned the tables.
And it’s now coming to the OTT space.
The story of Bea and Ben, though it does sound like a cringey romantic tale, worked and worked flawlessly. It shows that the audience sometimes craves crazy entertainment, and Anyone But You managed to offer them just that.
Fundamentally, a film like Anyone But You can be coined as a film that can only find success on the OTT space, at least that’s what the masses thought. A dish with rom-com essence and adult spices, it screams the OTT platform.
And similar to the speculations, the film did have a slow BO start, but by the grace of some magic by Sweeney and Powell, Anyone But You skyrocketed in the numbers. With a small $25M budget, it grossed $170M globally.
Despite the global success, India got very little exposure as, firstly, people are too skeptical to watch such movies in theaters; the fear of getting judged is haunting. And secondly, there was a limited release and zero to no advertisement. But the scene is about to change as Anyone But You is entering the OTT space soon.
The film will be streaming on ITunes, and one can pre-order it for ₹490, available from 27th February onwards. It is still unclear about it being on VOD format on Google, Prime Video, and BMS Stream, but such updates may come real soon.
